Fabio's Story
Our son Fabio suffered a severe brain injury in October 2006. ICU doctors at York Central Hospital told us that Fabio "is not a candidate for any active rehabilitation program due to his persistent vegetative state and, due to the severity of his brain injury, he will be placed in Complex Continuing Care." Since December 2008, Fabio has been living at home.
He arrived at Bridgepoint Hospital in January 2007 for a slow pace recovery program. Intensive physiotherapy was only done the first 6 months after his arrival. Due to Fabio's slow progress at Bridgepoint, he was getting less and less physiotherapy. His right side which was weaker was being neglected and Fabio was getting worse as time went by. The therapists and doctors were insisting that Fabio would benefit from having Botox and Baclofen injections. After 3 treatments of Botox we saw no change and Baclofen was making Fabio drowsy, so we stopped both treatments.
We found Health in Motion on the internet. In October 2008 Fabio was assessed by Natan who could see potential in Fabio. Fabio's functional abilities and progress have improved tremendously since he arrived at Health in Motion. He is now able to move his body from side to side, transfer from the bed/table to his wheelchair, all with minimal support. We are extremely pleased with the work at Health in Motion. The staff are super friendly and always have a smile on their faces. We are extremely blessed to have found Health in Motion.
