Ryan's Triumph
Our son, Ryan was born with a brain lesion which affects his respiratory, swallowing, speech and mobility functions. He is a very intelligent child with lots of potential but is tracheotomy- and ventilator-dependent, hypo tonic, and developmentally delayed.
Our biggest worry with Ryan has always been his mobility and balancing problem. At the age of almost four, he still could not crawl cross pattern, stand or walk independently. He bum scooted to move around in the house. He could walk short distances with a walker.

Ryan developed numerous respiratory illnesses and required antibiotics frequently. He had been hospitalized a number of times for pneumonia. We got worried and exhausted every time he was admitted to hospital.
We did not know how to avoid all these episodes of respiratory illnesses. We followed all the advice and instructions provided by doctors, nurses and therapists. But we continued to worry that his health and immune system were getting weaker.
We knew antibiotics were not the solution. We knew that we had to strengthen his physical health and could not prolong this situation. We needed help.
After nights of online research, we finally found a therapist in Toronto: Natan Gendelman at Health in Motion Rehabilitation. Ryan had his first session with Natan on May 9, 2009. After observing Natan's first session with Ryan, we knew we had found the right therapist. We still remember how Natan assured us that Ryan will walk, jump and run. He explained to us what the problems are and what we need to do to improve his health. He answered every query and question we had in a very clear, precise and easy to understand manner.
Natan's work is surprisingly effective, with results that way exceeded our expectations. Ryan started to crawl cross pattern in two to three weeks and taking steps on his own in about six to seven weeks since starting treatment with Natan. Within about four months, he began to walk independently and got rid of his walker.
After only five months of treatment, Ryan was also able to do lots of things he could not do before, including transitioning from sitting to standing, bending down to pick up objects, kicking ball, squat, jump, climb up the couch, open and close doors, and fall safely. He can even pad around on his tricycle!
We found Natan's approach to be safe and easy and the activities he recommended we do with Ryan at home are practical and doable for the patient and caregivers. Ryan's overall health improved at a rate that we have not experience before. His mobility gain in the past five months is a miracle we did not predict or expect. Ryan started junior kindergarten last September. It’s such a joy to see him integrate well and function in a regular class environment. It's such a sweet feeling that we are now able to hold his hands for a walk.
Natan is a God-sent healer for Ryan. His expertise is unquestionable, his master knowledge and techniques are so precise, diverse and effective. We enjoy and learn a great deal at every visit from watching his work. Ryan has been attending two sessions weekly and will continue his treatments at Health In Motion Rehab until his gap with his peers is totally closed. We are confident that we witness this moment in the foreseeable future and probably sooner than what we expected.
If you have a child with a mobility impairment due to neurological cause, we highly recommend that you read a book called What to do with your Brain Injured Child? by Glenn Doman, and immediately start treatment with Natan and follow his instructions and advice.
We hope more children can get the right treatment sooner rather than later. We wish we could have found Natan years ago!
